DADDY FREEZE AND THE TRUTH ABOUT CHRISTIAN DOCTRINES.
There was this movie I watched sometime ago, Praying for Bobby. The movie was about a staunch Christian woman who had a gay son. The setting of the movie was much earlier before now gay movement has started making its way to the mainstream. She was unflinching on her stand regarding homosexuality.
She quoted every verse in the Bible that informed and supported her views against homosexuality. She reminded her son at every turn the punishment that wrath of God that await homosexuals.
One day, the young boy jumped off a highway bridge and was killed by a truck immediately.
This woman refused to grief for her son. In addition to his abomination of homosexuality, he has joined killing(himself) to it. She refused to lend emotions to her dead son.
But overtime, she suffered a lot of conflict within herself, then one day, she sought the opinion of a Priest.
She narrated how her son lived in the abomination of homosexuality while he was alive. The Priest shared a Bible passage with her, and she is well versed with the Bible. The Priest read out some other "abominations", and the punishments that has been prescribed for them by the Bible. The passage among other things, says that if a child disobeys his or her parents, such child should be brought to the gate of the town, and be stoned to death by the elders of the village.
The Priest asked how often disobedient children are dragged out by their parents to be stoned to death.
Going by a passage in the Bible, as I am writing this now, I am not (even) clean enough to be among people. If I touch you or you touch me, you too will become unclean. I should be in some corner somewhere, waiting out the 7 days after "my blood" ceased before I can be clean again to be around people.
The woman got more clarification on the confusion of interpreting words, laws, and passages in the Bible.
Well, that is that.
If you did not know Freeze, Daddy Freeze before this year, I am sure you must have heard of him now. Many thanks to the Tithe controversy he began.
Should Freeze die of cancer, please we should be objective and keep in mind that many people die of cancer world over.
If he dies of a horrible plane or car wreck, we should be objective and keep in mind the statistics of people that have lost their lives that way too.
If he "falls from grace", losses all his earthly possessions and become broke, we must remain objective and know that economic down can affect anyone.
If his marriage breaks down again and he goes through another divorce, we should be conscious of the high rate of divorce in our society, and world over today.
I am saying all these because I think we have become accustomed to believe that blessings come upon people for the good they did, and bad things happen to people because of something we did wrong. In other words, we earn everything, the good and the bad. Blessings are withheld, and bad things befall those who do not comply, people who question or query words, instructions of spiritual leaders. And in a bid to run away from this or any doom, people execute every word that proceeds from their mouth.
I may be wrong, I agree. Without reasoning, without questioning, people carry on and maintain religious culture they find themselves in.
I believe we all know Jesus, Jesus Christ, the only be gotten son of God.
He came to the world to bring us Good news. His message was welcomed by some, questioned by some, and outrightly rejected by some others. His message upset the Pharisees who were too well versed in what was right and how things should be in matters of religion. We all know how Jesus "ended". He died by crucifixion, the worst kind of death at the time. A way of death that was reserved for the worst kind of criminals.
Of course, Freeze is no Jesus, but my point is just for you to see how far and how desperate people can go to resist or silence opinions that is contrary to what they believe and have believed for a long time.
It's as if one undermines the benevolence of God by believing that we can earn his goodness, provision, kindness, mercies, and every good thing He gives by first "sowing seeds" or paying tithes. God's blessings feels so undeserving. "Why me" torments people who God show his face to. For those who are honest to themselves, they can admit within themselves that their is nothing they could have possibly done right to possibly deserve God's blessings in their life.
How does one even continue to have faith in God if it is that you "secure" or "earn" his goodness by keeping your part of a "deal".
There are many things that propels the world-religion(spirituality), politics, economy, Science, etc. Our Spiritual leaders are still vested in economic activities(some have jobs, own investments, run businesses), benefit from Science(seek treatment in hospitals, use inventions of science), fraternize with politics and politicians, etc. But some members of their congregation believe that once you get it right with religion, everything else aligns.
That is one of the main reasons Africa is as underdeveloped as it is today. We(Africans) have all the faith, and believe that that should make up for all the work that needs to be done. So we pay Tithe and believe the storehouse of Heavens would open to us, and we sow seed to propel unmerited favor from God.
I once told someone that the Bible said many things. "........... test me and see if I would not open up the store House of Heavens unto you", I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy", "faith without work is nothing". I can go and on. God is not an author of confusion, so the ambiguity is NOT from him. The confusion lie in our insistence on a particular passage and be adamant over others - related and unrelated - passages. Jesus Christ even said so Himself when He spoke about the Pharisees in the context of tithe.
The Bible says............. "time and chance happen to all men". As humans, we think or try to quicken our time and chance by propelling it with financial pittance. I try not to get logical over religious matters, the Bible tells us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts, and lean not on our own understanding. So I try not to lean on my own understanding, and so should others, including Daddy Freeze, Pastors, we all.
Some say Freeze is being used by the Devil to wage war in (Nigerian) Christiandom. I just laugh. How has Freeze's Free the Sheepies Campaign set-back Christianity in Nigeria? Does it muddle Salvation or teachings of Salvation? Or does it discourage people from the Communion of Brethens?
I love God and I believe in Him and His powers. I love the way He prides Himself sometimes. There is a passage in the Bible where God asked "who has given to Me that I should repay him? Whatever is under the whole heaven is mine?" The Silver is Mine and the gold is Mine ". I can go on and on.
Well, even the Bible says that " the kingdom of God suffereth violence and the violent taketh it by force ".
