WHEN WE ALL WANT TO BE WHITE.
Certain things simply marvel me.People using pictures of white babies or toddlers on the billboard of their day care centers and primary schools.
At least in the Eastern part of Nigeria, the white population is statistically insignificant but people apparently advertise with white babies. Is it that when we trust you with the care of our young ones, you groom them to become white skinned and then turn into Americans or Europeans?Or is there any point that they are trying to make that I do not understand.
This is not common in school post billboards alone. You see eatries, boutiques, bookshops, car washes, sometimes even churches putting up photos of white people on their billboards. Most of these firms can thrive for decades without getting any patronage from people of the lighter race, yet we call on our people with their images. They may never get white patronage not because their products are not desirable by white people but simply because there are no much white people around.
You see Boutiques with large photos of white models stridding down a run-way.Is it that the boutique sells (original) cloths that were featured on New York run-way,even if thats the case, does that mean there were no black models on that run-way.Or boutiques that use white dummies to display their wares. Is it that the manufacturers of dummies just do not make black dummies or do (we black) people find black dummies wearing fine cloths scary unlike its white 'counterparts' and thus does not attract customers.Or you see an ultraround diagnostic center billboard with a white pregnant lady posing,or a white man looking into a microscope, biko nu who is fooling who.Such centers do not have a single white staff on their payroll nor recorded a white patient or client and are not exactly anticipating any in the future.
Lets not assume its only business enterprises that is into this insanity.Have you seen an invitation to a child dedication or a child's birthday party, you see parents putting up the image of a white baby. Some say they dont want nde village to use the image of their child for jazz,ok,no problem, but do they mean to say that there are no photos of black chubby babies avaliable online that they can put on the invitation.
Blacks based abroad endure racism, why should we in our own land be made to feel that we are of less value because of the colour of our skin in our own land by our fellow brothers and sisters, not even by the people of the presumed superior race.
So why are we doing this to ourselves. Why do we need the image of those that are not in the target consumers to sell our products or are we saying we offer 'white services' here and so blacks should be grateful to have it?
