BROKEN TRUST.
I have been duped before, 5 or 6 years ago, I'm not so sure. An "ally" of mine hinted about an offer, and said I needed to pay 7,000 naira for a form. I gladly paid. I started suspecting fowl play when his phone number became hard to reach. After a while, he called and asked for more money. I jeje counted my loss and did not bother joining words with him.
One thing about falling prey to such deceit is that you believed. You were given reasons to believe you were entering into a genuine transaction, only for it to turn out to be a hoax.
As humans, we are trusting in nature. Why would we not be? How would we ever make progress if we are to verify every circumstance before we take an action or make a commitment. On the spectrum of caution is paranoia. And it is hard to tell when you cross the line and begin to antagonise your own progress by seeing every opportunity as a snare.
They say it is greed that make people fall prey to fraudsters. That is an unkind thing to say. Everyone looks out for what is best for them. It is not weakness nor a flaw that it deserves condemnation. What is worth condemning is the act of circumventing the trust inherent in humans by creating an illusion which they convince people to believe.
People get ripped off everyday. Not just of money, but of many other fine things of life. The ploy of the wicked has bruised the innocence of the meek. Friendships are trampled, love is betrayed. Loyality has been spited and confidence broken. By and by, hearts are broken.
But we are what we are - humans. When we see a smile, we believe we have found a friend. An outstretched arm and we say help has come. We see passion and we believe we have found love. We see agony and tears on the face of another and we believe they are in distress and we offer help. Shame on all those who give others reason to understand that things are not always the way they seem.
